THE 35TH ANNUAL RHODE ISLAND STATEWIDE HISTORIC PRESERVATION CONFERENCE

Saturday, April 25, 2020  CCRI Knight Campus + Greater Warwick

Back to the Future

Fellow time travelers! We are planning an exciting event in Warwick, a city transformed by suburban growth in the decades after World War II.

Event highlights include:

  • Keynote address by George Smart, a Modern architecture advocate and creator of the USModernist Radio podcast
  • 11 tours of the Knight Campus, houses designed by Rhode Island Modernist architect Ira Rakatansky, post-WWII neighborhoods of Governor Francis Farms and Garden City, the geology of 19th-century mill villages, Clouds Hill Museum, Warwick cemeteries, and more
  • 12 sessions and workshops exploring Brutalist architecture, community-led interpretation, mapping, Modern houses, preservation futurism, and more
  • Viera Levitt: Beauty in the Beast – Photography of Brutalist Architecture exhibit at CCRI Knight Campus Gallery
  • Closing Reception featuring work by CCRI Art Department faculty at the President’s House on the historic Knight Estate

The conference brings together a growing community of professionals, volunteers, and students who care about Rhode Island’s historic places. Let’s network, learn, get inspired, and enjoy exploring our state and key historic preservation issues.

Registration opens in early March. Sign up for our email list—you’ll be the first to know when it’s time to sign up.
